Cardinals Pick Up Dominant Non-Conference Win Over Ottawa

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team scored 62 second half points on Tuesday evening on their way to a dominant offensive performance, winning 105-44 over Ottawa University (Kan.). The Cardinals improve to 4-6 on the season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ottawa started the night hot on the offensive end, grabbing an early 14-7 lead but Justice Sutton's jumper at the shot clock buzzer sparked a 23-0 Cardinal run to open up a 16-point advantage. The Braves got a couple of buckets back but Jewell closed the half with another 13-6 run to hold a 43-25 lead at the intermission. 
  • Leading by 16 early in the second half, the Cardinals 35-0 run, capped by back-to-back layups from Ty Romero to make it 80-37 with under 10 minutes remaining. The Jewell bench got in on the action late with buckets from PJ Moore, Jaden Peterson, Cooper Francis, Bryce Mitchell, and Christian Rebec who all scored in the final eight minutes.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Thirteen different Cardinals scored in the game, led by Bradley Lightbourne's career high 20. 
  • Ashton Jermain also put up a career high of 13 while handing five assists with Romero adding 12 points.
  • Sutton and Kyle Scharbrough each scored 11 with Adam Fuller chipping in a career best 10 to put six players in double figures. 
  • Jewell scored 20 points off turnovers and got 56 points from the bench while dishing out 23 assists, the most since December 17, 2023 against East-West.

Jewell will host Northwest Missouri State on Saturday in their final non-conference contest of the season. Tip off is set for 1 p.m.
