Cardinals Down St. Cloud in Extra Innings to Split First Day of Lewis Dome Invite

ROSEMONT, Ill. - The William Jewell softball team scored three runs in the top of the tenth inning to defeat St. Cloud State University, 6-3, on Saturday after falling 10-1 to Winona State to open the day. 

GAME ONE: Winona State 10, Jewell 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Warriors jumped out on top with a run in the top of the third frame but an Emma Jane Ogle triple scored Mikayla Chairez to quickly tie things up. 
  • Winona State scored nine unanswered runs over the final two frames to win 10-1. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jewell had six hits from six different players, led by Ogle's three bager. 
  • Sydney Parra (0-2) suffered the loss in the circle, allowing just a single earned run over four innings. 

GAME TWO: Jewell 6, St. Cloud 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell took the first lead in the third frame in game two as Ogle singled to left, scoring Sheyenne Kelch
  • The Huskies took the lead in the fifth with two runs on back-to-back doubles but Alexa Almejo's sac fly in the sixth knotted things up at at pair a piece. 
  • The Cardinals went back in front in the ninth as Amanda Chung scored on a ground out but St. Cloud came back with an RBI double in the bottom half to tie the score again. 
  • In the top of the tenth, with two on, Chung singled to center to put the Cardinals back on top before Almejo put a two-RBI single to left and make it a three-run Jewell lead. Avrey Reynolds induced two fly outs and a pop up in the bottom half to secure the win. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jewell finished with nine hits, led by two a piece from Chairez and Tori Woodard
  • Alemjo finished with three RBI with Chairez scored twice. 
  • Reynolds (2-3) tossed all 10 frames, allowing just two earned runs with two strikeouts to pick up the win. 

UP NEXT
Jewell will take on Parkside and Purdue Northwest on Sunday morning to close out the Lewis Dome Invitational.
