Softball Wins Pair on Day Two of Lewis Dome Invite

ROSEMONT, Ill. - The William Jewell softball team swept day two of the Lewis Dome Invite with an 8-3 win over Parkside followed by a 3-2 victory against Purdue Northwest. The Cardinals improve to 4-8 on the season with the wins. 

GAME ONE: Jewell 8, Parkside 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell took the lead on a sac fly from Alexa Almejo before Emma Jane Ogle broke things open in the top of the second with a grand slam to left field, making it 5-0 early in favor of the Cardinals. 
  • Ogle added another long ball in the fourth, this time a solo shot, to expand the lead to 6-0. 
  • The Rangers picked up two runs in the fifth but Amanda Chung's double in the next frame got one back.
  • Sydney Cure singled up the middle in the seventh to score Sheyenne Kelch before Parkside got an RBI ground out in the bottom half to bring the score to the final.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Cardinals finished with 10 hits, led by three a piece from Chung and Lexi Lopez.
  • Ogle was responsible for a game high five RBI while also scoring three runs. 
  • Sydney Parra (1-2) earned the win in the circle with the complete game effort, allowing three earned runs with six strikeouts. 

GAME TWO: Jewell 3, Purdue Northwest 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mikayla Chairez led off the third inning with a triple and scored on a two bag base hit by Ogle to give Jewell the lead. 
  • A two-RBI single in the fourth put the Pride on top for the first time. 
  • In the top of the fifth, Ogle hit her third home run of the day, a two-run blast, to give the Cardinals the lead for good. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Cardinals had 10 total hits with Chairez, Ogle, Almejo, and Tori Woodard all grabbing two. 
  • Parra (2-2) again earned the win, this time in relief, with three shut out frames. 

UP NEXT
Jewell returns to action on Wednesday as they return home for the first time this season to take on UMary in a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
