Baseball Falls In Midweek Matchup

 
LIBERTY, Mo. – The William Jewell baseball team was unable to ward off Winona State University on Tuesday evening at home, resulting in a 11-5 win in favor of the visiting Warriors. The Cardinals are 2-4 after the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Down three in the bottom of the first a lead-off double from Jordan Phillips gave Jewell an immediate runner in scoring position, two batters later Will McCombs would ground out to score Phillips from third.
  • Entering the bottom of the third Jewell trailed 6-1, but an Evan Jilbert triple cleared the bases to cut the Warriors lead to three. One batter later Jilbert would get home with a McCombs RBI single.
  • Luke Bies would cross home plate in the 7th inning but would not be enough as Winona got the 11-5 win.

KEY STATS
  • In his first appearance of the year on the bump Jacob Sullivan went just two innings, allowing four runs and issuing three walks.
  • Bies and Phillips each had two runs scored.

UP NEXT
Jewell will be back at Talley Stadium on Friday when they begin a four-game series against Bemidji State. First pitch is at 3:00 PM.
