Women's Basketball Completes Season Sweep of UIS with 73-57 Win

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The William Jewell women's basketball team went on the road on Thursday and picked up a 73-57 victory of Illinois Springfield to move to 7-18 on the season, and 5-14 in league play. After defeating also the Stars back on December 2, the Cardinals  complete the season sweep of their GLVC foe.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams traded buckets in the first quarter with neither leading by more than five. On top by one, the Cardinals got a three from Ayden Shannon to close the opening period with an 18-14 advantage.
  • A Kirsten Hauck layup midway through the second frame pushed the Cardinal lead to eight but UIS followed with a quick 8-0 run to knot things up. Kate Hillyer's free throws made it 32-30, in favor of Jewell, at the break.
  • The Cardinal offense came to life in the third period, outscoring the Stars 23-16  while shooting 60%. Leading by two late in the quarter, Jewell went on a 12-3 run, capped by a Hauck bucket to make it a double-digit lead, 55-44.
  • UIS cut the lead down to seven early in the fourth but the Cardinals closed the game on an 18-9 run to expand their lead to a game high 21 late in the contest.
