LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball team put together their best first quarter of the season but went cold late as Rockhurst University rallied to win 77-69. The Cardinals fall to 5-15 on the season and 3-11 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. 
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Jewell hit five first period three pointers, with two each from Karlee Holland and Paris Opelt as Jewell shot 73% and opened up a 29-16 lead.
• Both teams struggled offensively in the second to the tune of just 15 combined points but Rockhurst chipped away, pulling within four at the break as Jewell led 32-28 after 20 minutes.
• After the Hawks quickly cut the lead to just two moments into the third quarter, Jewell went on an 18-7 run, capped by a steal and bucket from Ayden Shannon to make an 11-point Cardinal lead. The visitors finished the period with a 9-0 run to pull within three.
• The Jewell went cold again in the fourth quarter as Rockhurst hit three triples to open up an 11-point lead.  The Cardinals hit two late threes to get things down to seven but could get no closer. 
   

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Holland finished with a game high 18 points while Shannon added 15, Ella Bockenstedt 11, and Opelt 10.
• Bockenstedt and Opelt each grabbed a team best six rebounds while Kirsten handed out four assists.
• Jewell shot 42% for the day and was 10-of-12 from the free throw line.
