Cardinals Pick Up Run Rule Victory in Split with Davenport

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team dropped a 7-2 decision to Davenport University before coming back for a 9-0 run rule victory in the nightcap. The Cardinals move to 13-11 on the season with the split. 

GAME ONE: Davenport 7, Jewell 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Davenport took advantage of an early Cardinal miscue, grabbing a three run lead in the top half of the first. Jewell responded with two runs in the bottom half on back-to-back doubles from Amanda Chung and Alexa Almejo
  • The Panthers added four runs on four hits in the fifth frame to open up a five run advantage. 
  • The Cardinals put runners in scoring position in two of the final three innings but came up empty, falling 7-2.  

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jewell finished with eight hits, led by Chung's pair. 
  • Avrey Reynolds (6-6) suffered the loss in the circle, tossing 4.1 innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits. 

GAME TWO: Jewell 9, Davenport 0 (5 Inn.)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell broke things open in the second inning, scoring five runs on five hits. With two runs already in and the bases loaded, Chung singled to left center, followed by a base hit from Tori Woodard to make it 5-0 early. 
  • The Cardinals added four more in the fourth as Emma Jane Ogle hit her team leading ninth home run of the season. Almejo scored on a ground out before Woodard crossed the plate on an RBI double from Abby Harder to put the game in run rule territory.   

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Cardinals out hit the Panthers 10-1, as Chung and Woodard each had two while Ogle had two RBI and scored twice. 
  • Olivia Wood (1-3) picked up the win tossing five scoreless frames, allowing just a single hit. 

UP NEXT
Jewell and Davenport will wrap up a four-game series on Thursday with a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
