Cardinals Take Game Two to Split with No. 16 UIndy

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team rallied for a game two win, 8-6, to split with No. 16 ranked Indianapolis. The Cardinals, who dropped game one, 7-1, move to 16-14 on the season and 3-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. 

GAME ONE: #16 UIndy 7, Jewell 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After three scoreless frames, the Greyhounds put three on the board in the fourth but Jewell came back with one in the bottom half on a Tori Woodard RBI double. 
  • UIndy added a run in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth to cruise to the 7-1 victory.

GAME TWO: Jewell 8, #16 UIndy 6
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell jumped on top in the first frame as Addie Bell singled to center to plate two runs. 
  • The Greyhounds got one back in the top half of the second but Chairez singled up the middle to score Sydney Cure in the bottom half and put the advantage back to two. 
  • In the third, UIndy scored two to knot things up but the Cardinals came back in the bottom to get four hits and took advantage of a UIndy error to score four runs and taka 7-3 lead.
  • UIndy added two runs in the fifth to pull within two but Woodard put an RBI double down the left field line to put the game away. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Cardinals pounded out 10 hits, led by three from Woodard. Chairez, Bell, and Emma Jane Ogle all had two hits apiece. 
  • Bell drove in three runs while Alemjo scored twice. 
  • Sydney Parra (8-3) earned the win, allowing just two earned runs in the complete game effort. 

UP NEXT
Jewell hits the road next weekend for GLVC action at Quincy and Upper Iowa.
