LIBERTY, Mo. – After winning the first three games of their series against Bemidji State, the William Jewell baseball team swept the Beavers Sunday afternoon with a 9-6 win. After entering the four-game series 2-4, the Cardinals now sit two games above .500 with six wins and four losses.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• After a solo homer by Bemidji in the first, Justin George answered back with a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead.
• The next inning Cale Blasi scored when Jordan Phillips got on base via a fielder's choice. One batter later an infield fly allowed Ilyas van den Bos to score from third. Jewell scored two more runs in the second to grasp a 5-1 lead through two.
• Bemidji scored runs in the 3^rd and 5^th, when in the 6^th the Beavers pulled within one run after a batter was hit with the bases loaded.
• With the bases loaded and two outs in the 7^th, Phillips crushed a bases-clearly double to deep left center field as the Cardinals held on for a 9-6 series sweep over Bemidji.

KEY STATS

• Starting pitcher Nick Taylor went five innings, struck out two, and gave up six hits en route to picking up his first win on the year. The junior is now 1-1 on the season.
• Coming out of the bullpen Cameron Naber went 2.2 innings and struck out four, while Nick Fitzanko earned his second save of the year.
• With the win Jewell has won 23 of the last 25 meetings with the Beavers.
