Jewell Picks Up Doubleheader Split with Bulldogs

LIBERTY, Mo. - After dropping game one, 6-0, the William Jewell softball team responded with a 6-3 win in the nightcap to split with Truman State on Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals move to 19-17 overall and 6-8 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. 

GAME ONE: Truman 6, Jewell 0 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Truman took advantage of an early Cardinal error to score four runs in the opening inning. 
  • The Bulldogs added a single run in the fourth and fifth to cruise to the 6-0 win.

GAME TWO: Jewell 6, Truman 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The roles reversed in game two, as it was the Cardinals who plated three early runs. Emma Jane Ogle got things going, scoring on a wild pitch before back-to-back RBI singles added two more. 
  • Consecutive Bulldog errors in the second frame allowed Ogle to score an unearned run and expand the lead to four. 
  • Addie Bell scored on a wild pitch in the third inning before Truman got on the board in the sixth, cutting the Cardinal advantage to 5-3. 
  • A sac fly from Ogle plated Chairez in the bottom half of the sixth to give Jewell the 6-3 win. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Bell led Jewell with three hits, while Ogle and Alexa Almejo each had two. 
  • Sydney Parra (10-4) earned a complete game win, her tenth of the season.  

UP NEXT
Jewell returns to the field on Saturday to host Southwest Baptist for a doubleheader at 12 p.m.
