Game Winning Walk Gives Cardinals Split with Rockhurst

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team picked up a split on Sunday with crosstown rival Rockhurst, taking game one 3-2 before falling 4-1 in the nightcap. Jewell moves to 20-18 overall and 7-9 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Rockhurst started the game with a bunt single that came around to score three batters later to take the early lead.
  • With two on in the third frame, Emma Jane Ogle got a sac fly to left, scoring Sheyenne Kelch. Amanda Chung then singled to right field to plate Mikayla Chairez and give Jewell the lead.
  • The Hawks knotted things up in the fifth, but the Cardinals were the recipients of three walks in the bottom of the seventh inning, including a walk off walk to Tori Woodard.

  • Sydney Parra (11-4) earned her team high 11th win of the season, working all seven innings, allowing just two earned runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Rockhurst wasted no time responding in game two, using a sac fly and two-run home run to go in front 3-0.
