ST. LOUIS - The William Jewell softball team put together another late inning rally on Sunday for a 7-5 win at Maryville. The Cardinals dropped game two, 4-2, to split with the Saints and move to 12-10 on the season and 2-2 in conference play.
GAME ONE: Jewell 7, Maryville 5
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell jumped out in front early as Alexa Almejo tripled to score Amanda Chung in the top of the first inning, but the Saints rallied with four runs on four hits in the bottom half.
- The Cardinals got one back in the second frame as Reagan Bennett walked and eventually scored on a wild pitch.
- In the fourth, Jewell pulled within one after Sheyenne Kelch reached on an error and came around to score on a double from Mikayala Chairez.
- Maryville pushed their advantage back to two with an RBI double to lead, 5-3 after four innings.
- In the seventh inning, Emma Jane Ogle singled and scored on an RBI double to cut the lead down to one. Down to their final out, Jewell got an RBI single from Addie Bell to knot the score at five before Sydney Cure's double to center scored two more and gave the Cardinals the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jewell roped 11 hits o the day including three from Chung, who also scored twice.
- Sydney Parra (6-2) earned the win, working six innings.
- Avrey Reynolds picked up her first save of the year with a scoreless seventh inning.
GAME TWO: Maryville 4, Jewell 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After two scoreless frames, Maryville got on the board first with three runs on three hits and a Cardinal error.
- The Cardinals got one back in the sixth as Bell singled to center, scoring Alemejo.
- Trailing by three in the seventh, Chairez doubled and scored on a Chung single to center but the Cardinals could get no closer.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jewell had nine hits, led by Bell's three, while Chairez and Kelch each had two.
- Reynolds (6-5) suffered the loss, allowing three earned runs, while striking out five.

Jewell returns home for a four-game home stand, beginning Wednesday with a doubleheader against Davenport University.
