Jewell Drops Two at Missouri S&T

ROLLA, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday at Missouri S&T by finals of 7-1 and 4-3. The Cardinals fall to 22-20 overall and 9-11 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. 

GAME ONE: Missouri S&T 7, Jewell 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mikayla Chairez started things off with a bang, blasting a lead off home run to center and give the Cardinals the early lead. 
  • The Miners responded with a two two-run blasts of their own in the second and third frames to take the lead. Missouri S&T added three runs on three hits in the fourth to roll to the 7-1 win. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jewell was limited to just three hits, one each from Chairez, Amanda Chung, and Addie Bell
  • Sydney Parra (11-5) suffered the loss, working 3.2 innings, allowing four earned runs. 

GAME TWO: Missouri S&T 4, Jewell 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell again scored first in game two, as Chairez crossed the plate on an RBI single from Chung, but the Miners responded immediately, tying the game in the bottom of the first. 
  • Trailing by two in the fifth, Sydney Cure scored after a bases loaded hit-by-pitch to pull within one. 
  • After Missouri S&T pushed their advantage back to two, Chung singled through the right side to plate Emma Jane Ogle but a pop up ended the rally. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Cardinals had seven hits, led by Chung with a pair to go with three RBI. 
  • Olivia Wood (4-4) took the loss, working all six innings, allowing three earned runs. 

UP NEXT
Jewell returns to action on Sunday for a doubleheader at Drury University.
