Barnes Named New Jewell Golf Head Coach

LIBERTY, Mo. – William Jewell College is pleased to announce the hiring of Ian Barnes as the new head men's and women's golf coach. He becomes the 16th head coach of the men's program while being the 7th head coach of the women's team, beginning his duties August 4.

Barnes, an alumnus of the Central Missouri golf program, has been a member of the Mules' coaching staff since his graduation from the program in 2021. In his four years on staff he was a part of Central Missouri's 2022 Regional Championship win and individual medalist at the National Tournament. Barnes is most recently coming off of mentoring the Mules to a 2025 National Tournament berth, while seeing three regular season team tournament wins between 2022 and 2024.

While playing on the greens for the Mules, Barnes helped the program to a No. 4 national ranking in 2021, winning six-of-nine tournaments en route to both MIAA and Regional championships. Individually, he was named to the MIAA All-Tournament Team after being tied for third, shooting a 219 (+3) on the weekend. Barnes also was named the 2021 NCAA DII Men's Golf "Elite 90" award winner, presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 90 championships.

Barnes earned his Bachelor's Degree in Design & Drafting Technologies from Central Missouri. He is married to wife Ashley and is the proud father of his son, Kellen.
