KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The William Jewell volleyball team snapped a 10-game skid on Saturday with a split at the Truman State Invitational, defeating Upper Iowa 3-1, after falling to the hosts earlier in the day. The Cardinals improve to 1-10 on the season entering Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the opener, the Bulldogs came out firing, hitting on a 45.5% clip, while holding Jewell to just 11.8%, rolling to a 25-14 win.
- The Cardinals bounced back to start the second set as Madison Roney rolled off three aces in a row to push Jewell out to a quick 5-0 advantage. Truman rallied and eventually tied the match at 15-all midway through before going on an 8-2 run and take a 23-17 lead. The Cardinals got kills from Silvia Fisher and an ace by Alexis Nunn to pull within four but the Bulldogs end the rally, 25-20.
- In set three, Truman jumped out to a 15-7 lead only to see the Cardinals come right back with an 11-5 run, led by three kills from Wylie Singleton, to pull within two. Three ill-timed errors pushed the Bulldogs lead back to six as they finished off a 25-20 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Cardinals were led offensively by Emma Lea Benney and Sarah Madsen, who each had nine kills as the team hit .131.
- Jewell picked up eight service aces, paced by Roney (3) and Singleton (2).
- Olivia Starr had 13 assists while Reaghan Bible had 10 to go with a team high 11 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Set one was back-and-forth with the two teams trading runs until Upper Iowa put together a late 6-2 spurt to take the opener 25-23.
- Leading 10-7 early in the second frame, the Cardinals were the recipients of five errors by the Peacocks as they built a 16-7 advantage. Two late kills from Macy Bartlett helped Jewell finish off a 25-22 win to tie up the set.
- Emma Lea Benney picked up three kills as the Cardinals opened up a 16-6 lead midway through set three. The Peacocks got three straight kills late to pull within eight but Benney and Wylie Singleton each had a kill as Jewell rolled to a 25-11 win.
- A Kelsey Keling kill midway through set three pushed Jewell to a commanding 17-11 advantage. Upper Iowa rallied, pulling within 23-22 before Keling and Bartlett each had a kill to give the Cardinals their first win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Cardinals hit .174 on the match, including a .281 clip in set three while holding the Peacocks to .060.
- Benney finished with a team high 13 kills and 13 digs while Bartlett added a dozen kills.
- Jewell had seven blocks, led by Singleton's five while Alexis Nunn picked up 12 digs.
- Reaghan Bible handed out 22 assists with Alexis Frazier adding 17.
- The win marks the first as a collegiate head coach for Joe Adams.
