Cardinal Football Hits the Road for Match Up at McKendree

THIS WEEK'S ACTION:
vs. McKendree University (0-3, 0-1 GLVC)

Saturday, September 27, 2025
3:00 PM • Lebanon, Ill.

CARDINAL NOTES
  • William Jewell (2-1) is back on the road this weekend as they travel to McKendree University for a Great Lakes Valley Conference match up with the Bearcats (0-3). After not defeating McKendree in the first 10 meetings, the Cardinals finally got over the hump last fall, downing the Bearcats 45-14 on Senior Day to close the 2024 season.
  • The Cardinals are coming off a tough 29-19 loss to Southwest Baptist last weekend as those Bearcats rallied with 14 points in the fourth quarter to take the victory. Jewell suffered through 135 penalty yards and just 78 rushing yards in the loss.
  • The defense continues to be stellar, particularly along the line, as Jewell leads NCAA Division II in turnovers gained (12) and fumbles recovered (8). Justin Endicott, Max McKenzie and Sonny Proctor are all tied for the national lead with two fumbles recovered, with Endicott also having forced a pair.
  • Along with the takeaways, Derrick Von Hubbard has been stellar on the line, currently ranking seventh nationally with 2.00 tackles for loss per game and 1.50 sacks, which is tops in the GLVC and fourth in Division II. As a team the Cardinals boast 4.33 sacks per game, fourth best in the nation, while allowing just 1.33.
  • Following a rough first half on Saturday, MicahJo Barnett got the ground game moving in the second half, finishing with a team high 86 rushing yards on 17 carries. The sophomore is leading the GLVC with four rushing touchdowns, 294 total yards, and 98 per game.
  • On the other side of the ball, Jewell is pacing the GLVC in rush defense, allowing an average of just over 88 per game and is third with 21.3 points allowed per game.
  • In his first season, Bleu Renfrow has shined in the kicking game, currently ranked first in the GLVC and 12th nationally with 43.5 yards per punt and is second the league and 14th in Division II with a field goal percentage of 80%.
  • After entering the program as a wide receiver, Ben Murawski made the change to defensive back this fall and has excelled. The redshirt freshman is second on the team with 24 tackles, including 4.5 for loss, to go with one interception, one forced fumble, and three break ups. In the win over Kentucky Wesleyan, he posted 14 tackles and a pick.
  • The Cardinal offense has looked smooth at times and stalled in others, coming into the week converting just 3-of-27 (11.11%) of third downs and 1-of-6 on fourth down. At the same time, Jewell is third in the GLVC in rushing offense and second in passing yards per completion.
