WICHITA, Kan. – The William Jewell women's soccer opened their 2025 season on the road Thursday evening against the Jets of Newman University. After capturing an early lead, Jewell was unable to hold on for the win, losing 4-1.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• A corner kick in the 22' from London Schulte gave Jewell the 1-0 lead when last season leading scorer, Lux Sands, booted it into the goal for the first score of the Cardinals' year.
• Newman tied the game and then took a 2-1 lead headed into halftime.
• Out of the gate in the second half Isabella Vaz took a shot but it sailed over the crossbar. Jewell would be able to gather three more shots in the second half, including one on goal by Kennedy Holloway, but would lose 4-1/

 
KEY STATS

• Jenna Skeeters got the start, collecting four saves in nearly 80 minutes of action. Freshman Hailey Davin came in for the remaining 10 minutes allowing one goal.
• Sands tallied four shots and two shots on goal while putting one in the netting while Vaz had two shots.
• Jewell had nine total shots, four on goal, compared to the12 shots that the Jets registered.

 
Jewell is at home Sunday as they will face Wayne State (Neb.) at noon.
