Fast Start Lifts Cardinals Past Truman

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The William Jewell volleyball team jumped out to a two set ead on their way to winning their second straight Great Lakes Valley Conference contest, taking down Truman State 3-1 on Friday night. The Cardinals improve to 3-14 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

The Cardinals opened the match 7-3 but Truman found a rhythm and went on a 13-5 run to open up a four point advantage. Back-to-back kills from Macy Bartlett and Wylie Singleton got Jewell back in the match but the Bulldogs held a 21-18 lead late. Trailing 24-22, Kali Adamec got a block and a kill to knot things up at 24-all. The teams traded set points until three straight points from the Cardinals gave Jewell the opener, 27-25.

Set two was back-and-forth as neither team could claim more than two point lead until late. With Truman leading 19-18, the Cardinals got kills from Singleton, Bartlett, and Silvia Fisher to go in front by five. A service error by the Bulldogs gave Jewell the two set lead, winning 25-20.

After Truman took set three and held a 16-12 lead midway through the fourth, the Cardinals responded. Bartlett's kill sparked the rally as Jewell finished on a 13-6 run, winning 25-22.
