LIBERTY, Mo. - In their first game back inside the Mabee Center since January 24, the William Jewell women's basketball got off to a fast start and led by as many as 12 in the first half, but Drury University rallied to win 82-52 on Thursday evening. The Cardinals fall to 0-21 on the season and 0-15 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell got 10 quick points from four different players before Syderah Farmer's triple put the Cardinals up 10 less than six minutes into the game. A Maja Komaszynska basket made it a 12-point advantage but the Panthers hit back-to-back threes to get themselves back in the game.
- Drury went on a run in the second period, outscoring the Cardinals 23-7. Chanelle Anderson scored late in the half to pull Jewell back within seven but the Panthers scored the final five points to lead 38-26 at the break.
- The Cardinals stayed within striking distance in the early part of the second half as Taryn Jacob hit a three just before the shot clock buzzer to keep Jewell with a dozen. McGarrah added five more but from there, the Cards went scoreless for two different stretches of two-plus minutes each as Drury built a 33-plus point lead.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- McGarrah led the way with a career high 22 points on 8-of-15 from the floor.
- Rylee Thompson pulled down a team high eight rebounds while Komaszynska grabbed seven.
- The Cardinals shot 39% from the floor, their third highest this season, and 37% from three, but committed 27 turnovers that led to 31 Drury points.
