ST. LOUIS - The William Jewell men's basketball team suffered through their worst shooting day since November on Saturday, going just 18-for-55 from the floor, on their way to a 76-55 loss at Missouri-St. Louis. The Cardinals move to 17-9 overall and 13-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cardinals maintained an advantage for the first 11 minutes of action until UMSL took their first lead on a layup by Colby Dolphin. While Jewell went five minutes without a point, and scored just twice over the span of nearly eight minutes but remained within striking distance, trailing by just five. Ashton Jermain's three cut the deficit to two but the Tritons closed the half on a 10-1 run to lead by 11 at the intermission.
- UMSL came out of the locker room and quickly expanded their lead to 24 as the Cardinals were just 2-for-8 from the floor during the first seven minutes of the second half. Jewell outscored the Tritons 28-25 over the final 13 minutes but the early deficit was too much to overcome.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Justice Sutton finished with 13 points while Isaac Pattesron had 12 to go with a team high five rebounds and three assists.
- Bradley Lightbourne and Kanukayi Gudza also added three assists each.
- Jewell shot just 31% from the three point line and 32.7% from the floor, compared to 53% by the Tritons.
UP NEXT
Jewell will return home to close the regular season, hosting Illinois Springfield on Thursday evening followed by a match up with Truman State on Saturday.
