Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Cold Fourth Quarter Allows Rockhurst to Slip Past Cardinals, 71-63

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball team led for 76% of Thursday night's game at Rockhurst but went cold in the fourth quarter, shooting just 27% while the Hawks hit from 53% to rally for the 71-63 win. The Cardinals drop to 0-19 on the season and 0-13 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell started hot offensively, getting three pointers from Syderah Farmer, Alex McGarrah, and two by Rylee Thompson to jump out to a double digit lead in the first six minutes and lead 15-7 after the opening period.
  • The Cardinals maintained their advantage in the second frame as another Thompson triple followed by a bucket from Taryn Jacobs gave Jewell their largest lead of the day at 13. Rockhurst hit a three at the buzzer to pull within eight at the intermission, 38-30.
  • To open the third quarter, Jacee Peterson's put back bucket pushed the Jewell lead back to 11 but the Hawks followed with a 15-3 run to go in front 48-47.
  •  Tied at 60-all midway through the fourth quarter, turnovers plaqued the Cardinals down the stretch, committing seven giveaways in the final six minutes as Rockhurst put the game just out of reach.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Thompson grabbed her first career double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, both career highs.
  • McGarrah finished with a game high 17 points while Farmer added 10, and handed out five assists.
  • Jewell dominated the glass, grabbing 57 rebounds, the most since January 2017. Of those 57, 24 were on the offensive end, the highest total since 2019, and led to 17 second chance points.
  • Along with Thompson's dozen, Maja Komaszynska had a career high 14 boards.
