Cardinals Post First Shutout in Program History, 23-0 at Shorter

ROME, Ga. - The William Jewell men's lacrosse team put together the best single game performance in program history on Friday night in a 23-0 win at Shorter University. The 23 goals are the most in in a single game and the shutout is the first since the program's inception (2023) and the first by a Great Lakes Valley Conference team since 2022. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a slow first five minutes offensively, the Cardinals got four goals in the span of less than two minutes, three scored by Carson Wright. Wright added two more scores with Bailey Allard chipping in one before the first period was up to make it 7-0, Cardinals.
  • Allard added three more scores in the second period as the Cardinals got seven total from five different players to expand their lead to 14-0 at the intermission.
  • Seth Heath scored three straight to open the second half as the Cardinals poured on nine more in the final two frames, including rookie Aaron Maline's first career score, to roll to the 23-0 win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Cardinals out-shot Shorter 34-3 with 27 shots on goal, and committed just three turnovers. 
  • Wright scored a career high six goals while assisting on two more. Allard and Heath also finished with four goals apiece.  
  • Wyatt Novak grabbed four of Jewell's 36 ground balls while scoring twice. 
  • Cody Kaiser and Vance Flick each won 7-of-8 face off attempts as Jewell won that battle 16-2. 
  • Isaac Kessler got the win in goal and faced only three shots, all in the fourth quarter, with none on goal.

UP NEXT
Jewell continues their early season road swing next week with a trip to Ohio to take on Malone University and Tiffin University.
