Cardinals Wrap Up Opening Weekend in Arkansas

BENTONVILLE, Ark. - The William Jewell softball team wrapped up their opening weekend of the 2026 season at the Alvy Early Classic, falling 9-0 to Washburn, 10-9 to St. Mary's University (Texas), and 4-0 against No. 22 ranked Missouri Southern. 

Game 3: Washburn 9, Jewell 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Washburn scored on a solo home run in the second inning to break the scoreless tie before adding five runs on four hits in the third and another three runs in the fourth.
  • The Cardinals put runners in scoring position in the final two innings but could not score.

Game 4: St. Mary's 10, Jewell 9
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cardinals wasted no time in the second game of the day, plating six runs on five hits in the first inning. With the bases loaded Alexa Almejo and Tori Woodard drew back-to-back walks. Reagan Bennett followed with a two-RBI double and Avery Webster scored Woodard on a base hit to center. 
  • St. Mary got back in the game with five runs on five hits in the third inning but Jewell came right back with three runs in the top of the fourth. A Mikayla Chairez double was followed by two more bases loaded free passes to put the Cards in front, 9-5.
  • The Snakes scored five runs over the next two innings to take a 10-9 lead. Jewell put the tying run in scoring position in the seventh frame but came up short of the timely hit. 
     
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jewell eight hits, led by two doubles from Bennett while Chairez had two hits and scored twice.
  • Claudia Robbins suffered the loss in relief, giving up five earned runs over 3.2 innings of work. 

Game 5: #22 Missouri Southern, Jewell 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Missouri Southern took an early lead in the weekend finale with a sacrifice fly in the first inning and added a solo homer in the fourth to lead 2-0 midway through. 
  • The Lions added a run in the sixth and the seventh to finish, 4-0. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Alexa Alemjo's two hits led the Cardinals on Sunday, including a double.
  • Reagan Bennett allowed two earned runs over four innings of work and took the loss. 

UP NEXT
Jewell is on the road this weekend at the Branson DII Battle in Branson, Mo.
