Cardinals Push No. 21 McKendree

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team challenged No. 21 McKendree University on Sunday morning, fall 9-8 in game two after dropping the opener 8-0. The Cardinals move to 9-17 on the season and 0-4 in conference play. 

Game 1: McKendree 8, Jewell 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • McKendree broke things open early, scoring five runs in the top of the second before adding two in the fifth and another in the sixth to take the opener, 8-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After the Bearcats scored four runs in the opening frame, Jewell rallied plating five runs on three hits in the third. Lexi Lopez got the scoring started with a bases loaded walk before Avery Webster crossed the plate on a fielder's choice. An error by the left fielder, a wild pitch, and ground out allowed three more to score to give Jewell their first lead, 5-4. 
  • McKendree tied things up quickly with a solo home run a wild pitch allowed Reagan Bennett to score to put the Cards back in front. 
  • In the fifth, the Bearcats got back-to-back hits to knot the game at 6-all before Emma Jane Ogle triples to score Avrey Reynolds before scoring herself on an RBI single from Bennett. 
  • The Bearcats scored one in the sixth and added two more in the seventh to retake the lead for good, 9-8.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Cardinals put up nine hits, led by three from Bennett and two by Woodard. 
  • Olivia Wood took the loss, allowing a single earned run in relief. 

UP NEXT
Jewell hits the road next weekend for a tough test with No. 11 Indianapolis on Saturday before heading to Lewis University on Sunday.
