ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The William Jewell baseball team took game two of the four-game series 6-5, on Saturday afternoon, before falling 14-1 in the nightcap. The Cardinals move to 6-16 on the season 2-5 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
Game 1: Jewell 6, Lewis 5
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell wasted no time jumping in front, as Luke Bies took the third pitch of the game over the center field wall to score two. Mason Jeffers' sac fly plate Justin George to make it an early 3-0 Cardinal lead.Â
- In the second frame, Austin Dahlberg led off with a walk and came around to score on a single from Bronson Ryan. During a rundown at first base, Maddox Meier slipped home with no throw to push the Jewell advantage to 5-0.Â
- A solo home run in the third got Lewis on the board but Blundell's RBI base knock in the following inning got the run back.Â
- In the fifth, the Flyers rallied using an error to plate one before a timely home run scored three unearned runs to pull Lewis within one, 6-5.Â
- The home team put the tying run in scoring position in the seventh but Ryan Hunt induced a popup and ground out to get out of the jam.  Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jewell finished with nine hits, led by two each from Ryan, Bies, and Blundell.Â
- The Cardinals swiped nine bases in the contest with two apiece by Bies, Dahlberg, and Meier.Â
- Charlie Rambo (3-3) evened his record with a five inning, performance, allowing a single earned run while striking out six.
- Hunt picked up his third save of the year.
Game 2: Lewis 14, Jewell 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Much like the Cardinals in the opener, Lewis took advantage of an early lead, blasting a three run home run in the first inning. The Flyers added two runs in the second and the third to open up a 7-0 advantage.Â
- Dahlberg doubled in the fourth to score Blundell who had walked to get Jewell on the board.Â
- The Flyers added one run in the fourth, two in the fifth, and four in the sixth to cruise to the 14-1 win.Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jewell was limited to just four hits in game three, from Bies, Blundell, Dahlberg, and George.Â
- Jack Lemasters (0-5) took the loss, allowing five earned runs on four hits.Â
