LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team opened a six-game homestand on Saturday afternoon with a sweep of Upper Iowa by scores of 7-0 and 7-4. The Cardinals improve to 13-19 overall and 4-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. 

Game 1: Jewell 7, Upper Iowa 0
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Jewell got on the board in the second inning as Sheyenne Kelch's double scored Tori Woodard and Emma Jane Ogle, who each had base hits. The senior Kelch followed, scoring on an RBI single from Avery Webster.
• In the bottom of the fifth, the Cardinals got two, two-run home runs from Reagan Bennett and Ogle to push the lead to 7-0. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• The Cardinals had 11 hits, with four different players having two, with Woodard and Ogle each scoring twice. 
• Bennett (5-7) was sensational in the circle, tossing a complete game shutout, allowing just four hits while striking out 11.  

Game 2: Jewell 7, Upper Iowa 4
HOW IT HAPPENED

• After being shutout in the opener, Upper Iowa jumped out in front in game two, scoring two runs in the top of the first. The Cardinals got one back on a bases loaded walk in the third. 
• The Peacocks added two more on back-to-back base hits in the fourth but Jewell rallied in the bottom half, plating four runs on five hits. With two on, Mikayla Chairez, Lexi Lopez, and Amanda Chung put together consecutive base knocks before Bennett's two RBI single put the Cards in front, 5-4. 
• Jewell added two insurance runs in the following frame as Claudia Robbins scored on Webster's single before a rundown allowed Kelch to score and bring the score to the final of 7-4.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Bennett led the offense with three hits while Kelch had two and scored twice. 
• Olivia Wood (3-3) earned the complete game win with four earned runs on seven hits while striking out four.
