Game Four Victory Snaps Losing Skid

FAYETTE, Iowa. – After dropping the first two games of the series, William Jewell baseball won the series finale versus the Peacocks of Upper Iowa on Saturday afternoon snapping their 14-game losing streak. Jewell is 7-29 after the weekend and 3-17 in the GLVC
 
Game 1 (Jewell 2, Upper Iowa 11)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Down seven runs in the top of the seventh the Cardinals moved a baserunner all the way to third with Bronson Ryan stealing the bag, but could not get further.
  • One inning later Austin Dahlberg scored after being walked to lead-off the inning to put Jewell on the board.
  • In the sixth inning Koen Gakstatter led-off with a single to left and came around to score after stealing second, an error, and a wild pitch to pull Jewell within five but the Cardinals allowed four runs in the bottom of the frame for the 11-7 loss.

KEY STATS
  • Ryan Hunt got the start, giving up six earned runs in the first. Thomas Adair chewed a majority of the middle innings, going five and issuing two walks.
  • Gakstatter contributed two of the five total hits on the day, while Dahlberg drew two of the five walks at the plate.
 
 
Game 2 (Jewell 10, Upper Iowa 8)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cardinals plated four runs in the first three innings, two via a Mike Wunderlich single to left in the second and an additional pair courtesy of Blake Tigges who also notched a base-hit to left.
  • After the Peacocks scored one run in the third Jewell answered with four fourth-inning runs. A Luke Isaacs single plated two, while Jewell found two more runs via a wild pitch and a Santiago Jimenez ground-out to enter the bottom of the fourth up 8-1.
  • With a one-run lead headed into the ninth Tigges sent a sac-fly to right to give Jewell a two-run lead, holding on for a 10-8 win.

KEY STATS
  • Charlie Rambo notched his third win of the year, going 5.2 IP, striking out five, and allowing five runs. Miles Hanzel recorded his first save finishing off the final one and one-third on the mound for the Cardinals.
  • Gakstatter went three-for-four with a walk, collecting five hits between the two Saturday games. Tigges led with three RBIs.
  • The win snaps a 14-game losing streak going back to March 21st.

UP NEXT
Jewell will head to Jefferson City on Tuesday for a non-conference game against GLVC-foe Lincoln (Mo.).
