LIBERTY, Mo. – Back at home this weekend, William Jewell baseball fell in their Saturday doubleheader to Quincy in both games, 10-3 in the first game followed by an 8-0 shutout in game two. Jewell is 8-31, 3-19 after the day.
Game 1 (Jewell 3, Quincy 10)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell surrendered four runs in the top of the first inning before Jewell loaded the bases in the bottom of the frame before three straight outs.
- The Hawks held a 9-0 lead in the sixth inning when Cardinal third-baseman Blake Tigges reached on a fielder's choice that scored Luke Bies for the first Jewell run of the game. One batter later Justin George roped a one-run single scored a run to make it 9-2.
- Maddox Meier notched a single in the seventh to plate a final run, later falling in nine innings 10-3.
KEY STATS
- Nick Taylor received the loss, going only 2.2 innings and walking four.
- Designated hitter Justin George was 3-for-4, his second three-hit game of the season.
Game 2 (Jewell 0, Quincy 8)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Quincy plated two first inning runs, Jewell answered by loading the bases in the second inning, but after one out an attempted sac-fly was met by throwing the Cardinal runner out at home to end the inning.
- Up 3-0 in the fifth, the Hawks hit a two-run homer to extend their lead. Jewell got as far as loading the bags with the first three batters in the sixth, but for the second time on the day three straight outs stopped the Cardinals from scoring any runs before the 8-0 final in favor of Quincy.
KEY STATS
- Taylor Brenneman went 5.2 innings, striking out a pair in the loss.
- Jewell left nine batters on base, collecting only four hits.
