LIBERTY, Mo. – William Jewell baseball celebrated Military Appreciation Day on Sunday in a pregame ceremony before their doubleheader match-up with the Quincy University Hawks. After winning game one 3-1, the Cardinals fell in game two 18-2. Jewell is 9-32, 4-20 after the day.
Game 1 (Jewell 3, Quincy 1)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With two men on in the first Justin George dropped an RBI single into center field to score Luke Isaacs from third to take an early 1-0 lead.
- Tied at one entering the bottom of the fifth Jewell played small ball attempting to advance runners before Maddox Meier singled scoring center fielder Koen Gakstatter to take a one-run lead. One batter later George hit his second RBI single of the game to give Jewell the 3-1 advantage they would take all the way for the win.
KEY STATS
- Charlie Rambo took to the bump for the Cardinals, pitching a three-hit, one-run complete game. The southpaw struck-out seven batters while also retiring the lead-off man in all seven innings.
- George had his second consecutive multi-hit game with two hits.
Game 2 (Jewell 2, Quincy 18)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Down three in the bottom of the first shortstop Luke Bies collected a single that plated two runs to pull Jewell within one.
- Quincy plated a run in each the third and fourth, but 13 combined runs by the Hawks in the final two innings gave Quincy the run-rule victory, 18-2.
KEY STATS
- Ethan Veach got the game two start, going 3.1 innings, striking out two, and allowing five runs.
- Jewell collected six hits, with both Blake Tigges and Austin Dahlberg getting in on the action.
