LIBERTY, Mo. – The William Jewell baseball team lost a mid-game lead to Doane University on Tuesday evening at Talley Stadium, falling 11-8. Jewell is 6-26 on the season following the contest, with a 2-14 GLVC record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Down 5-0 in the bottom of the second Ilyas van den Bos drew a bases loaded walk to score Justin George for the first Cardinal run. Freshman Bronson Ryan then doubled down the right field line plating two runs.
- The Cardinals were not done, Hayden Post put up a sac-fly while Luke Isaacs's single to left was helped out by an error by the Tiger left fielder to score Ryan to tie the game at five.
- In his next at-bat Isaacs again singled, this time a two-run knock to give Jewell the 7-5 lead in the fourth.
- Doane tied the game in the seventh, took the lead in the eighth, and added insurance runs in the ninth while Jewell could only score one run in the bottom of the ninth for the 11-8 loss.
KEY STATS
- Cameron Naber started, going one inning, while striking out and walking one. Jewell used nine pitchers total, none more than 1.2 IP, with Brandon Brown receiving the loss.
- Isaacs three-hit game marks back-to-back three-hit game for the junior, and his fourth multi-hit game in a row.
- The Cardinal's losing streak sits at 11 games, tied for the longest of the season.
