Cardinals Split Saturday Doubleheader at Lincoln

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team dropped the opening half of a doubleheader at Lincoln University of Missouri, 8-0, but responded with a 3-0 win in game two. The Cardinals move to 20-28 overall and 11-15 in conference play. 

Game 1: Lincoln 8, Jewell 0 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Blue Tigers took the early lead with a two-run home run in the first inning. Lincoln broke things open in the third, scoring four runs on two hits and taking advantage of a Jewell error to go on top, 6-0. 
  • The home team added a single run in the fourth and fifth innings to end the game after five. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jewell was limited to a single base hit, off the bat of Mikayla Chairez
  • Reagan Bennett (7-13) took the loss in the circle with five earned runs with three strikeouts over three frames.

HOW IT HAPPENED

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jewell finished with nine hits, led by three from Woodard while Chairez and Ogle each had two. 
  • Olivia Wood (6-5) tossed the complete game shutout with five strikeouts. 

UP NEXT
Jewell will close out the season on Sunday with a doubleheader at Missouri-St. Louis.
