OWENSBORO, Ky. - In their first game back to action, the William Jewell football team used a dominant second half to defeat Kentucky Wesleyan 35-14 and move to 1-0 on the season.
After a slow start offensively, that included a touchdown being brought back due to penalty, the Cardinals found the end zone first as
Caden McGhee picked off the Kentucky Wesleyan quarterback to set the offense up on teh 19 yard line. Two plays later,
Jake Shaffer found
Xavier Winston for an 18-yard completion to put the Cards on top 7-0.
Bleu Renfrow connected on a 26-yard field goal attempt to expand the Jewell lead to 10-0 but the rest of the second quarter belonged to the Panthers. Kentucky Wesleyan found the end zone twice in the final seven minutes of the half to take a 14-10 lead into the locker room.
Renfrow again hit a field goal attempt, this time from a short 15-yards to pull the Cardinals within one heading into the final frame. Over the final 15 minutes,
Charlie Loose connected with
Hunter Bailey,
Michael Clark, and Cason Forrest for touchdowns while the defense came up with two interceptions to blow the game open and secure the 21-point victory.

- Jewell ran for 178 yards while holding the Panthers to just 59 yards rushing. Ronnie Thomas, Jr. led the attack with 83 yards on 11 attempts
- The Cardinals secured five sacks, paced by Du'Vaughn Williams and Pierre Yamba with 1.5 each.
- Jonny Williams was the top tackler for the Cardinals with nine while McGhee, Jayshawn Richmond, and Keagan Hart each had an interception.
- Loose led three Jewell quarterbacks who appeared in the game, going 13-for-21 for 234 yards and three touchdowns.
