Early Score Not Enough As Peacocks Down Cardinals

 LIBERTY, Mo – After taking an early lead against GLVC opponent Upper Iowa, the William Jewell men's soccer team fell 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. Following the loss, Jewell drops to 1-6-0 and 0-4-0 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell started fast, putting four shots up in the first 15 minutes including three shots on goal, two by Daniel Pirillo and one off the foot of Owen Pereira.
  • Minutes later Pirillo put his third shot of the half into the back of the net to give Jewell a 1-0 lead in the 22'.
  • After a late first-half goal that tied the game at one-all, Jewell began the second half with another four early shots but was unable to convert. 
  • Upper Iowa scored in the 65' to take a lead, Jewell had a late chance to tie but was unable to convert on a penalty kick to give the Peacocks the 2-1 victory. 
 
KEY STATS
  • Aldo Bryant and Aidan Smith each played a half in net and allowed one goal apiece while collecting six and five saves, respectively. 
  • Pirillo tallied five shots with four on goal. The sophomore's first half goal marks his fourth goal in the last three games for the Cardinals.

Jewell is at home on Wednesday night when they host Truman State.
