Jewell Avoids Loss With Late Goal, Gets First Draw On Year

LIBERTY, Mo – The William Jewell women's soccer team avoided their first loss of the year, forcing a late-game draw against the visiting Peacocks of Upper Iowa University. The 1-1 draw pushes Jewell to 0-6-1 and 0-3-1 in the GLVC.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cardinals began the game with a pair of shots on goal, the first from Allison Schwarz and followed by Elle Haan, but neither found the back of the goal.
  • Eight minutes into the second half Upper Iowa found the first goal of the game to go up 1-0.
  • With 90 seconds left in the game Sophia Giuliano scored her first goal of the season to avoid the loss and give the Cardinals their first tie of the year. 
 
KEY STATS
  • Jenna Skeeters played the full game in goal, collecting two saves.
  • Jewell had a season high nine shots on goal, including two from Jessica Baker who had three total shot attempts.
 
UP NEXT
The Cardinals return to action on Wednesday when they host Truman State.
