Cardinals Force Four Turnovers in Homecoming Victory Over McKendree

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell football team came away with a 28-21 homecoming win over McKendree University on Saturday afternoon, scoring 14 points in the fourth quarter and forcing four turnovers. Jewell improves to 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Despite entering the contest last in the GLVC in rushing yards per game, McKendree got on the board first with a 65-yard touchdown run by Jerry Richardson. The Cardinals came right back as Charlie Loose connected with Xavier Winston for 47 yards to knot the score at seven.

Jewell threatened early in the second quarter, facing third down on the Bearcat one yard line but came up short twice, forcing a turnover on downs but Jett Turner's 64-yard interception return quickly set the Cardinals up back in McKendree territory as Loose found Raesean Eaton for nine yards and the lead.

Tied at 14-all midway early in the third quarter the Cardinals again came up on empty on short yardage, giving McKendree the ball on the two yard line. On the first play of the ensuing drive, the Jewell defense came up with a fumble in the end zone, recovered by Turner to put the Cardinals on top 21-14. Jewell added insurance late as Kavious Record ran for a 20-yard touchdown before the Bearcats added a score to bring it to the final of 28-21.
