Hampton Smith begins his fourth season on the Jewell staff in 2023 and will work primarily with the defensive line.

• Mentored defensive lineman Edd Becton to All-GLVC Second Team honors in 2022
• Coached outside linebackers at Furman University
• Helped the Paladins to a No. 5 overall ranking in the FCS in pass defense and No. 27 in scoring defense. Both marks led the Southern Conference
• Worked as a defensive quality control coach for Furman helping the 2018 team to a share of the SOCON championship
• Spent one year at Wofford College as a the defensive quality control and assistant defensive line coach
• Helped the Bulldogs to the SOCON title and a quarterfinal appearance in the FCS playoffs
• Served as a student assistant at South Carolina
• Earned his bachelor's degree from South Carolina in interdisciplinary studies and retail management in 2016
