Sam Brown

Sam Brown begins his fifth season as the Cardinal quarterbacks coach in 2019 after previously serving as the offensive coordinator and head coach from 1991-96. He brings over forty years of high school and college coaching experience obtained in Missouri and Kansas high schools and William Jewell.


Jewell Highlights
•  Under Brown's mentoring William Jewell quarterbacks have thrown for more than 13,000 yards in five seasons and have completed nearly 55 percent of passes.
• In 2015, Nick West tossed 16 touchdowns and his 3,229 total yards not only led the GLVC but set a new William Jewell single season record.
• Following the 2017 season Brad Strauss became the first Cardinal quarterback since 2012 to be selected to the All-GLVC team, before going on to play professionally in Germany.


Prior to Jewell
• Prior to rejoining the Jewell staff, Brown won the Cecil Patterson Coach of the Year award and the Kansas City Chief’s Coach of the Week; both are presented to high school coaches.
• He is a member of the 2006 Excelsior Springs Athletic Hall of Fame, 2008 Missouri Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame, 2015 Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, and the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.


Playing Career2
• A highly touted recruit, he played four years for the University of Missouri and was a member of the 1970 Orange Bowl team for the Tigers. 


Personal
• A native of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Brown earned a physical education degree from the University of Missouri and a master’s and specialist degree from Central Missouri State University. 
• He and his wife, Cindy, have a daughter, Maggie and son, Mack.
