The William Jewell College softball team hosted fellow Great Lakes Valley Conference foe University of Missouri-St. Louis and came away with a split falling 2-0 in game one and winning 1-0 in game two on Saturday in Liberty, Mo.
The Lady Tritons received solo home runs from Jenna Boudreau and Katie Wood in the first and second innings respectively and that turned out to be all the offense UMSL needed to win game one.
Stephanie Benson (3-2) earned the complete game shutout victory giving up only four hits while striking out 9 Cardinal batters.
Amanda Storm (2-2) suffered the hard luck loss for Jewell pitching 7 innings giving up five hits, two runs while walking four and striking out five.
In game two the Cardinals used a dominant pitching performance from Senior
Maria Buckingham to earn the 1-0 shutout. Jewell scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the second when catcher
Ashlee Nation scored on a wild pitch.
Buckingham (5-3) earned the victory for Jewell tossing a four hit shutout while striking out 13 Lady Tritons. Jenna
Boudreau (5-4) suffered the loss for UMSL going six innings giving up five hits and one walk while striking out five.
Nation led the Cardinals offensively with a double and a run scored.
The Cardinals, 9-8 on the year will take on Maryville University on Sunday March 18 at 12:00 p.m. on the Jewell Campus in Liberty, Mo.
