LIBERTY, Mo. - For the third time in program history, William Jewell softball boasts an All-American as outfielder
Mikayla Chairez picked up the national honor from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), where she earned a Second Team selection, while also being listed on the Third Team by the Division II Conference Comissioners Association (D2CCA). She joins Rachel Hayden (2013) and Faith Song (2015) as the three Cardinals to earn All-America status on the softball diamond.
The senior from Blue Springs, Mo. led the Cardinals and ranked top-15 in Division II in batting average (.484), on base percentage (.548), and slugging percentage (.830). She finished the season with 74 hits, including 14 doubles, three triples, and 11 home runs while driving in 29 runs and scoring 41 times. She also struck out just nine times in 153 at-bats and swiped seven bases.
Chairez was one of six Great Lakes Valley Conference players to earn a spot on the NFCA All-America list and one of five on the D2CCA. She along with Indianapolis' Caitlin Bunte and Brooklyn Willis, McKendree's Lauren Harris, and Southwest Baptist's Keeley Eslea were each listed on both squads.
