The William Jewell College softball team split a double header with University of Illinois-Springfield on Sunday afternoon in Springfield, Ill.  A solo home run by in the bottom of the fifth inning led the Lady Prairie Stars to a 1-0 win in the first game of the doubleheader.  The Cards came back to take game two 4-0. 
In game one, 
Maria Buckingham was the hard luck loser giving up only two hits but one of the two hits was a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth that proved to be the difference in the contest.   
Buckingham (7-7) pitched six innings while striking out 12. 
Jewell was able to score a single run in the fourth, two in the fifth and another single run in the sixth for the 4-0 win in game two. 
Taylor Brown delivered a two-out RBI single in the fourth to give the Cards a 1-0 lead.  
Eileen Greenwood and 
Faith Song led off the fifth with back to back doubles and were able to score off an error and sacrifice respectively.  Song came through with a two out RBI single in the sixth for an insurance run that put the Cards up 4-0 and proved to be all the Cardinals needed. 
Song finished three for four with an RBI and a run scored while Brown finished one for two with an RBI and a walk. 
Buckingham (8-7) earned the win after allowing only three hits in four innings of work.  
Amanda Storm pitched three innings of relief and allowed just two hits.
 
The Cardinals, 14-15 on the year, will play host to Rockhurst University on Tuesday, April 3 at 2:00 p.m. on the Jewell campus in Liberty, Mo.
