The William Jewell College softball team bounced back for a 6-2 win in the second game of a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader to earn a split with University of Illinois-Springfield on Friday afternoon at William Jewell College.
The Lady Prairie Stars won the first game, 11-2, before Jewell bounced back to win the second game. The split leaves the Cardinals at 17-16 overall and 12-10 in the GLVC.
The Cardinals led the first game 1-0 before the Lady Prairie Stars exploded for four runs in the fourth and seven runs in the fifth.
Maria Buckingham (10-8), tossed four innings giving up 8 hits and five runs while striking out four.
Lexy Rozmus was the lone bright spot offensively for Jewell going two for three with an RBI and a run scored.
The Cardinals used a strong pitching effort from
Amanda Storm and Buckingham in the second game that helped Jewell secure the split.
Rachel Hayden led the way going three for four with a home run, three RBI's, and two runs scored.
Rozmus continued her hot hitting going two for four with an RBI and a run scored for the Cardinals, who scored one runs in the first inning, and five in the third to take the win.
Amanda Storm (4-4) picked up the win hurling five innings giving up seven hits and two runs while striking out six. Buckingham tossed two innings and gave up only one hit.
The Cardinals will return to action Saturday at 12:00 p.m. when they host Quincy University in a doubleheader at William Jewell.
