In its Great Lakes Valley Conference opener on Friday afternoon, the William Jewell College women's soccer squad shutout the University of Indianapolis by a score of 3-0.
 
The game was tightly contested over the first 20 minutes.  The Cardinals grabbed the lead at the 29:29 mark when Sarah Franklin scored a goal off a double assist from Kate Beaver and Ashley Licata. 
 
The Cardinals kept the 1-0 lead until the 52 minute when Licata netted home a goal off an assist from goalkeeper Kelli Sontag.   Olivia Dykes picked up her first goal of the season on an assist from Franklin a little over a minute later. 
 
Sontag recorded 8 saves in the contest and earned her first shutout of the season. 
 
Jewell outshot UINDY 16-11 in the game with an 11-8 advantage for shots on goal. 
 
William Jewell also held the advantage in corner kicks on the day 3-0.
 
The Cardinals, 2-0 (1-0 GLVC) on the season will take on St. Joseph's College on Sunday, September 9 at 12:00 p.m. in Rensselaer, Ind.
