Senior Day for Cardinal football started with an interception leading to a short touchdown for Jewell, but Missouri Science & Technology bounced the Cardinals 24-6 in Great Lakes Valley Conference football play Saturday.
The Miners (4-5, 3-2 GLVC) had five turnovers on the day to just one for William Jewell, yet S&T was able to work around the mistakes by limiting the Cardinal offense.
Quarterback
Sean Shelton (11-25, one interception) was injured during the first offensive series and missed part of the first half, but it was a stout S&T defense that held the Cardinals to 202 total yards in the game (144 passing and 58 rushing). Â while the Miner offense ground out 462 total yards (224 passing and 238 rushing).
The Cardinals picked off three passes. Â The first, by
Nick Messer, set the Cardinals up at the one-yard line and led to Glendan Whitney's one-yard tourchdown run. Â
Jack Bissonnette and
Daniel Granger also had interceptions, and the Cards recovered to fumbles.
Thomas Clanton had 13 tackles for Jewell,
Thomas Swoboda had 11 and Bissonnette had 10.
Jewell (2-7, 1-3) will take the to road for their next two games, starting at Kentucky Wesleyan in a noon kickoff next week.
