William Jewell football won their third game of the season in impressive fashion on Saturday, downing Kentucky Wesleyan College 37-17 in Owensboro, Kentucky.
The Cardinals jumped to a 21-0 halftime lead and closed out their most impressive outing of the year in the road contest. Â It was the third win in four road games for the Cardinals.
Glen Whitney started the scoring with a 1 yard run in the first quarter, followed by touchdown passes by
Sean Shelton to
James Harvey (18 yards) and
Travae Jones (54 yards).
After giving up a touchdown early in the third quarter, the Cardinals came back with a 3-yard Shelton run, a blocked kick by Nate Egharavba that went out out the end zone for a safety,and a 13 yard
Darrick Strzelecki run in the fourth quarter.
The Panther's field goal came late in the third quarter.
Jewell's Strzelecki, Whitney and Thomas Cook, Jr., combined for over 220 yards rushing on the day, with Cook leading the way with 83 yards on the ground. Â Shelton was 17-25 with 168 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

Anthony Mullins,
Quentin Riser, and Cook each had 3 receptions as well.
Daniel Granger and
Nick Messer had five tackles for Jewell. Â Messer and
Thomas Swoboda had interceptions for the Cardinals; for Messer, it was his fourth pick of the year.
The Cardinals (3-7, 2-4) play at St. Joseph College next week to complete the year.
