Softball Splits Sunday Double Dip

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
The William Jewell College softball team split Sunday's doubleheader falling 13-5 to Northeastern State University and defeating Bacone 9-0, moving to 2-2 on the season.

In game one of Sunday's doubleheader the Riverhawks defeated the Cardinals 13-5 to start the day.  Jewell jumped out to quick 4-0 lead in the top of the first as Faith Song and Lexy Rozmus each had two-run doubles.  The lead would not last long as Northeastern plated home four runs of their own in the bottom half of the first.  The Riverhawks scored two more in the second, one in the fourth, two in the fifth and four in the sixth and held the Cardinals to only one more run the rest of the way.

Corrine Frei took the loss as she tossed 1.1 innings and allowed six runs (five earned) on three hits and issued two walks.

The bats were swinging early in game two, as the Cardinals put up two runs in the top of the first inning.

Jewell followed that with a single run in the fourth followed by four runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to earn the 9-0 shutout over Bacone.

Rachel Hayden and Ashley Barrett provided much of the offense for the Cardinals.  Hayden finished 3-5 with three RBI's while Barrett finished 2-5 with two RBI's.

Faith Song and Frei combined on the four hit shutout.  Song tossed five scoreless innings allowing four hits to earn the win.  Frei tossed two scoreless innings striking out three.

The Cardinals travel to Conway, Ark., March 1 to take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Williams Baptist College.
