Ashely Barrett collected four hits but it was not enough as the William Jewell College softball team dropped a doubleheader to Lincoln University Wednesday afternoon in Jefferson City, Mo.

The Blue Tigers took the opening game, 3-1. Rachel Hayden was the hard-luck loser, as she gave up just two earned runs in six innings but took the loss. She did not walk a batter and struck out two in the complete-game effort. The Cardinals totaled just seven hits in the game. Barrett led the way with two singles, and a double.

In the nightcap, Lincoln prevailed, 4-2. Jewell jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the third only to see Lincoln respond with three runs in the bottom of the fourth.  Corrinne Frei tossed five innings giving up six hits and four runs.  She struck out five and walked one to fall to 2-3 on the season.

William Jewell, 6-9, returns to action Saturday afternoon when they host Missouri S&T. The first game is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start.
