The William Jewell College softball team swept Rockhurst University today in Great Lakes Valley Conference action. The Cardinals were the visiting team but due to poor field conditions at Rockhurst the games were played on the Jewell campus in Liberty. The Cards took game one 8-1 and dominated game two by a score of 9-3. Jewell moves to 28-13 overall and 19-6 in GLVC play.
In game one, Jewell scored single runs in the first three innings, a single run in the fifth and four in the seventh.
Rachel Hayden led the Cards with a home run and two RBI's. She also picked up the win tossing a complete game five hitter allowing only one run while striking out eight. Hayden improves to 11-4 on the season.
In game two, it was
Faith Song's turn to put in double duty. Song hit a homerun, a double and a single and drove in three. She also pitched in relief of Corrine Frei and went 5.2 innings allowing eight hits and picked up her ninth win of the season.
The Cardinals will wrap up the home portion of their 2013 season tomorrow as they host Drury University starting at 2:00 p.m.
