Cardinal softball won their 30th game of the year Thursday as they swept Drury 7-5 and 4-1 in GLVC play at Liberty.  Jewell continued to hit with power in the doubleheader, as they cranked out seven homeruns on the day and got excellent pitching from
Faith Song and
Rachel Hayden.
In game one, Song's solo homerun put Jewell (30-13, 21-6 GLVC) ahead in the 2nd inning, only to see Drury take the lead with a three-run fourth inning.  The Cardinals, though, had their own uprising with back-to-back-to-back homers from Hayden, Song and
Brittany Madsen, and a solo homerun later in the inning by
Megan Risetter to retake the lead at 6-3.  A Song sacrifice fly provided the final run in the fifth inning.
Song went 5.1 innings to get the win (10-3), with Hayden coming on to pick up the save (1) in 1.2 innings of work, facing six and retiring five.  Song allowed five runs on nine hits, walking two, hitting two and striking out two.
Offensively, Song drove in three runs, Risetter went 2-3, and Hayden went 2-3 with 2 RBI.
The win was the 200th win for head coach
Dustin Combs at William Jewell College.
In the second game, Jewell scored an early run on an error and never looked back in the 4-1 win.  Risetter and Madsen each homered, with
Ashley Barrett driving in a run with a double as well.  Barrett went 2-2 in the game, and
Rachel Potvin went 2-3.
Hayden took the win in the circle (12-4) by going the distance, allowing one run on four hits, striking out seven and not walking a hitter.
The Cardinals made no errors in the doubleheader.
