Jewell Softball Rallies to Sweep Quincy

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Cardinal softball had to rally from two down in the second game of the doubleheader Sunday at home against Quincy, but when the bats finally warmed up the result was a 7-2 win and a sweep of the Hawks in GLVC play.  It was the eighth straight win for William Jewell (16-11, 9-4 GLVC), and the 10th win in the last 12 games.

Jewell won the first game 9-1 in five innings behind the one-hit pitching of Faith Song (6-3), who allowed just a single in the fourth inning, with the only run allowed scoring on a double play ball.  Song waked two in the game and struck out one.

Megan Risetter had three hits with a double and three runs driven in, Brittany Madsen had two hits, two stolen bases and an RBI, Rachel Hayden and Annali Doman each had a two-run single, and Lexy Rozmus had an RBI.

In game two, the Cardinals struck out eight times in the first three innings against Wendy Masias of Quincy (13-21, 8-12), and trailed 2-0 before Madsen's solo home run in the fourth inning jump started the offense; Jewell then added four runs in the fourth and two more runs in the sixth inning, stringing together seven hits over their final three innings (and striking out just once).

Dolman had a double and a home run in the game, Kelsey Teneycke had a two-run double, and Ashley Barrett, Rachel Potvin, and Hayden each had two hits.

Hayden (6-3) got the win in the circle in relief starter Song, who lasted 2.1 innings in her second start of the day.  Hayden gave up no runs in 4.2 innings, allowing four hits, walking one and striking out two.  She was also credited for the game winning RBI.

The Cardinals were errorless in the doubleheader.

Jewell will host GLVC foes Missouri S&T on Tuesday and Drury on Wednesday in games rescheduled from earlier in the year.
