Box Score Jewell softball dropped a winner's bracket game to UMSL in the GLVC Championship tournament Saturday night at East Peoria, Illinois by an 11-2 score.
The loss forced the Cardinals into a third game of the day, an elimination game against St. Joseph's College scheduled for 8 p.m., but delayed by rain.
Jewell started the game by jumping to a 2-0 lead, but UMSL tied the game at 2 in the third inning, then scored five runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth to end the game early by the eight-run rule.
Starting pitcher
Rachel Hayden had to leave the game in the third inning after being struck in the hand by a line drive. Reliever
Corinne Frei took the loss for Jewell. Jewell's two hits in the first inning were the only hits in the game for the Cardinals, who struck out 15 times in the game.
The Cardinals (31-14) broke a 13 game winning streak with the loss, and now must beat the Pumas to keep their conference championship hopes alive.
